The charm, luxury and old colonial feel. It was really great. Not the equivalent to Raffles in Singapore, but for us who could never afford Raffles anyway it was close enough. Big rooms, great poolarea (unless you want to sunbath) and friendly staff. Location also very good.
The buffet dinner was a disaster. Food was cold, they never brought out new stuff when trays were empty, I was served sour wine and nobody understood what I meant when I wanted a new bottle.

I stayed here twice, once on my way to Borobudur and once on the way back. On the second occasion I had to wait around 20 minutes because my room was not ready but, by way of apology, they gave me an upgrade, which was nice! The breakfast is really good by standards in this part of the world and the staff really helpful. The location is really good, right on the intersection of the main shopping street and within about a 30 minute stroll of the Sultan's Palace. You can also catch a local bus (you have to "transit" after 7 stops from the 1b to the 1a but is direct on the way back) from right outside the hotel that will take you to the Hindu temple at Prambanan, which is a worthwhile visit.
As with many of it's type, this hotel charges a ridiculous amount for using the computers in it's Business Centre, even though they have free wi-fi, which is really irritating!

The old colonial style of the hotel. It really is a grand old hotel which is well maintained and run. The location is also great!
The queen bed in room 218 needs to be replaced. It has a few dips and bulges.

The location of the hotel was excellent. It would probably take around 30 minutes to stroll to the Sultan's Palace, Water Palace etc and it's right on the corner of the main shopping street. The breakfast was excellent and the staff delightful. From outside the hotel you can also take a public bus to Prambanan (Hindu Temple), which is also a great place to see the Ramayana Ballet. The hotel even has a turn-down service in the evening, which is amazing for a hotel at this price!
My only complaint is that staff are more geared to guests who do tours with guides and and take taxis so don't have so much information on how to see the sights using public transport.

1. Good and clean hotel. 2. Quite spacious area at deluxe type room. And 3, the building has its own character.

Had a fantastic group vacation! The gardens are beautiful, and the breakfast spread was amazing. We visited the Borobudur and Prambanan Temples which were lovely. Just a heads up, the AC in our room could use some attention, but overall, I would definitely recommend this spot to others.
Check-in was chaotic, had to wait way too long for our rooms. It reminded me of there was a lack of coordination in the front office, frustrating after a long journey.

Great place with its 24-hour reception, outdoor swimming pool, and spa services. I fondly remember the staff helped me with an insect bite during my first stay. I highly recommend it for a romantic escape.
